Psychological factors disturb males in terms of satisfying sexual desire. I have had a few times trying to have sex with my girlfriend at home after hearing my boss making a lot of complaints to me from work. I couldn’t achieve orgasm most of the time because I kept thinking about what I should do in order to stop hearing those complaints. I felt depressed, too. Therefore, I couldn’t concentrate. Another case that I couldn’t reach orgasm was that my ex-girlfriend was so young. I was 24 at that time and she was 19. To me, five years of age gap is huge and she had a young looking face, too. She looked like a six-teen year old girl. I considered her as a young teenager who should be protected rather than an adult. So, although she wasn’t underage, I felt somewhat guilty having sex with her. And making love really didn’t work out with her. I did not lose my “ability” to maintain erection or achieve orgasm, but certainly could not reach orgasm when I was stressed out or feeling guiltiness. An article titled, “Impotence: Can it be cured without drugs?” posted on SexHealthinPlainEnglish.com says ten to twenty percent of all impotence is caused by psychological factors. According to The Male Health Centres, the psychological factors include low self-esteem, depression, stress, performance anxiety, marital problems, sexual abuse, widower’s syndrome, guilt, fear and mental illness. These factors cause losing erection by releasing adrenalin which prevents the blood flow into penis. Moreover, a person who worries about things too much can develop erectile difficulty. The Male Health Centres says continued anxiety and repeated erectile failures cause erectile difficulty.
On the other hand, it is hard not to have stress. There are so many factors around us that we should worry about: too much work, broken relationships, a fight between me and my friend, accidents, financial problems and etc. It is just impossible avoiding all of those. Hence, I think managing stress in your mind is very important. In my case, I release my stress by working out at gym listening loud rock or hip hop music. I also have my girl friend’s picture in my wallet to look at it every time I feel stressed out. People have their own ways of releasing stress. Otherwise, they should invent one.
