The topic given to our group was to find territorial & race conflict on internet. For our group’s research, we sought for territorial conflict combined with intercultural conflict and the Dokdo conflict between Korea and Japan seemed to be the most appropriate issue because Dokdo conflict itself has both the territorial component and intercultural component.
The Dokdo conflict is an age-old one that has been going on for several decades. However, it has yet to be settled and resolved. In the era of new media, we wanted to find out how the most powerful new media platform plays role in handling the issue of Dokdo. More specifically, we tried to find how Dokdo conflict is portrayed and shown on worldwide global Internet space. And then, from the findings, we hoped to derive solution to the conflict and suggest better ways for handling this conflict issue on Internet.
Purpose of the Research
1. To find out how Dokdo conflict is shown on Internet
2. To find out how users perceive Dokdo conflict on Internet
3. To propose possible solution to the conflict
Before Beginning the Research
In order to achieve our goals for the research, we had to narrow down the genre. Our given primary genre, an internet, was too big of a scope to efficiently analyze because the space extends beyond the physical boundaries of cultures and nations. Therefore, we needed to find valid sub-platform of Internet. For that, following questions had to be answered.
