In 2008-09, 817,000 males and 578,200 females reported being the victim of personal crime.
Threatened assault was the most common personal crime, experienced by 51 percent of males and 52
Percent of females.
Sexual assault was the least common personal crime, experienced by only one percent of males and seven
percent of females.
-More males than females were victims of robbery and physical assault. Eight percent of males compared
with five percent of females experienced robbery, while 39 percent of males compared with 36 percent of
females experienced physical assault.
4. Race and Ethnicity
- Black are seven times more likely than whites to spend time in jail. One third of black men in their twenties were either in jail, on probation(집행유예), or on parole(가석방).
- Prejudice based on race and class can prompt(자극, 격려하다) people to suspect blacks of criminal behavior simply on the basis of skin color.
- Two-thirds of black children are born to single mothers.
Children who grow up in poor families without fathers are at higher risk for criminality.
