Wal-Mart and Carrefour put off South Korean consumers by sticking to Western marketing strategies that concentrated on dry goods, from electronics to clothing, while E-mart and Lottemart focused on food and beverages, the segment that specialists say attracts South Koreans to hypermarkets.
Koreans are not used to self-service.
In my personal experience, I was traveled in the U.S and visit U.S hypermarket such as Costco, Wal-Mart and Vons.
Also I have worked in LotteMart as a part time job.
The distinctive difference is first of all, I can’t see the clerk selling products. I saw some clerk managing the stored products but it’s hard to see them standing every aisle and waiting for customers.
