docxPeople value certain qualities in their lives. In my case, I value honor, respect and unique experiences. That’s because I want to be a leader someday, and such qualities are critical for being a leader. To recall one of my proud experiences, I decided to challenge myself by serving in the military on Dec, 2005. I wanted to be mentally and physically strong and a person who people would sincerely respect. When I entered The Republic of Korea Army on March 2006, everything was different. Officers yelled, swore, trained me, and gave me orders. Every time I made a mistake or fell down during training, I was punished or forced to stand up and continue. I was changing quickly as I fought against myself in such a harsh environment.
When I completed my major training programs, I was appointed as a linguistics supplyman and positioned in the Second Squad, Headquarters Company. Captain Hyun-sik Yoon, my company commander, taught me leadership and communication skills because the former squad leader was about to be discharged. He wanted me to lead the squad in the future. After seven months, I became the squad leader and was responsible for all its members and their misbehavior. Being a good leader wasn’t easy, but it was a valuable experience.
