근대적 문학 형식은 계몽주의를 벗어나 문학중심주의를 추구하는 과정에서 동시적으로 이루어진 분야라 할 수 있다. 소설문학에 있어서 1920년대는 단편 소설의 시대라 불리는데, 이 시기 수많은 작가들이 단편 소설의 양식적 특성을 실험하고 미학적 완결성을 갖춘 작품을 창작하는데 매진하였다. 그 결과 인간 삶의 진실과 문제적 상황을 압축적으로 보여주는 단편 소설의 진면모가 이 시기에 결실을 맺었던 것으로 평가받고 있다.
본고에서는 이전에 분석한 문헌자료들을 통해서 먼저 이러한 근대 문학의 형태를 갖추게 된 그 당시의 시대적 배경을 알아보고 이러한 시대적 상황 속에서 등장한 동인지와 작가, 작품, 또한 작품에 따른 특징들을 살펴보도록 하겠다.
