There was a time when one of my suppliers went bankrupt. Because I made a contract with the supplier for a machinery that was critical to the project I was assigned to, it was a big issue. This kind of situation does not occur frequently, so there was few people who know what to do in that situation. When a supplier goes bankrupt, the buyer needs to deal with many legal issues which I have no expertise to deal with. I sought assistance from legal department and my manager, one of only few people who had experience. The legal issues started to get tangled across bank, insurance company, the suppliers subcontractors, and the court. Due to lack of expertise in law, it was critical for me to do research and look for relevant information. And I realized the instruction given from the legal department is different from my managers advice. I was very confused. Consequently, I needed more support from the legal department to deal with the problem. Information search and getting help from the right people were the key.
