6. References.
- Virions consist of a capsid.
- Virus capsid is not enveloped, round with icosahedral
symmetry.
- The isometric capsid diameter : 50 nm.
- The capsid shells of virions are composed of multiple
layers.
- Capsids appear round. The capsomer arrangement is
clearly visible.
Replication
- Replication takes place in both the cytoplasm and nucleus of host cells.
The viral genome enters the cytoplasm.
: The viral DNA forms supercoiled mini-chromosome structures upon
entering the host nucleus.
The viral DNA is transcribed into polyadenylated RNA
: terminally redundant because of transcription occurring twice
for some parts of the DNA
3. Newly transcribed RNA enters the cytoplasm once more
& It has two roles.
: Can be used as a template for viral protein synthesis
: Can undergo reverse transcription by viral encoded reverse transcriptase
to make dsDNA. This DNA can then reenter the nucleus for amplification.
